care and concern
We have, for the most part, busy lives but to care for what we have is a must. The favorite necklace that has dimmed a bit can bring enormous pleasure just by a little cleaning revival. There are lots of products in the marketplace that promise spectacular results. Do read the instructions. I cannot stress this enough as some liquids are forbidden to pearls, opals or other precious stones. Some silver cleaners should not have the entire necklace dunked into the solution as it will harm other stones in the piece. Where silver beads need a spruce up and they are part of a larger scheme of beads, a cotton bud dipped into a good solution followed by a damp cloth will usually do the trick. Pearls should be gently wiped with a tissue dampened with baby oil and then polished with a clean tissue and Ivory should be just left alone. The use of lemon juice will only discolor it further. Most stones respond gratefully to a damp cloth or in the case of open settings, a soft tooth brush. Prevention is always the best cure, so keep your favorite pieces in a soft cloth bag or a jewelry box away from the light.
